Sierra Nevada ENT & Hearing Aid Center Awards Local High School Graduates
CARSON CITY, Nev. (June 19, 2019) – Local high school students, Gabriel Covington and Megan Perry have been awarded the Manoukian and Romaneschi Science Scholarship, a $1,500 scholarship each. The scholarship is awarded annually by doctors at Sierra Nevada Ear, Nose, Throat & Hearing Aid Center to local students for their academic achievement and interest in pursuing higher education in the healthcare field.
“It was a difficult decision; we saw some incredible applications, but these two really stood out,” said Dr. Paul Manoukian, M.P.H., co-owner of Sierra Nevada ENT & Hearing Aid Center.
For the last 12 years Dr. Manoukian and his partner Dr. Brian Romaneschi have awarded more than $39,000 in scholarships.
“Giving the annual scholarship is one of the best parts of our job,” said Dr. Romaneschi. “The ambition, drive and smarts of the students that are coming out of Carson and Gardnerville is impressive and we are so happy to be able to contribute to their futures.”
Gabriel Covington graduated with a weighted 5.4 GPA and served as co-valedictorian at graduation. During high school he competed in cross country in addition to being named Presidential Scholar in Physics and playing violin in the Carson High Chamber Orchestra, the Reno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Carson City Symphony’s Advanced Youth Strings Ensemble, STRAZZ. Covington will study physics at the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall with a secondary major in music, literature or philosophy.
Megan Perry graduated from Douglas High School with a perfect 4.0 GPA and will be attending the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall. She will be studying neuroscience and hopes to pursue a medical research career. In high school, Perry was a dancer and participated as a student government officer and as an officer for the National Honor Society. She became the Associated Student Body President and President of National Honor Society her senior year. Her vast list of extracurricular activities also included art club, suicide prevention club, varsity athlete community service club and Spanish club.
